How to be prepared for the consultation?

Being prepared for your hair system consultation is crucial to making the most of the 30 minutes you have.

1. Keep your questions ready. 

To maximize your time together, write a list of 5-10 hair-system-related questions to ask the hair-system expert. 

If you keep the questions in your head, you might not remember them during the consultation and may miss the chance to get all your important questions answered. 

2.Research 

Researching the basics of men’s hair systems or women’s hairpieces is a great way to start your hair restoration journey. The more you know, the more you can question or clarify.

3. Know the size of your balding area.

Hair systems come in standard sizes; knowing the exact size of your balding area will help you choose the correct hair system, e.g., a frontal hair system, a crown patch, a full cap men’s wig, or a toupee.

You will need: 

• a string or soft measuring tape

• a Chinese marker or pen

• a mirror

Important: extend the measuring tape without stretching it; this is crucial for accurate figures.

Measuring Width:

Step 1: Find the widest part of your balding area. 

Step 2: Use the measuring tape and extend it from left to right. Thin areas are not always defined; measure at the most prominent part for the widest result.

Measuring Length:

Step 1: If you don't know where your front hairline starts, place 3-4 fingers on your forehead with your pinky against your eyebrow and mark the spot with the marker. 

Step 2: Place the end of the tape at the back of your head where the thinning ends, then extend it up to the mark on your forehead.

Your hairpiece must match your natural hair color for a seamless, undetectable look. For an exact or near-exact match to your natural hair color, take photos of your hair in the most natural light available. This helps our experts recommend the best color for you. If possible, sending us photos before your consultation would be a big help to both of us! 

If you dye your hair, make sure it's the color of your choice before the consultation so we can match the toupee to your dyed hair.

During your online consultation, sit in natural light, like near a window,  so our consultants can find the best match for your bio hair color.

5. Bio hair length 

This is especially for our male clients. Ensure you do not cut your hair for at least 2-3 weeks before the consultation. You need to have at least 1-2" of bio hair on the sides/back for proper blending and attachment. If you do not have any bio hair or if it is shorter than this limit, we cannot color-match you with the right system or determine your hair density. Additionally, 1-2 inches of bio hair also helps blend the hair system seamlessly for a natural transition.

6. Decide on the kind of hair system you want

Men's hair systems come in various types to suit different coverage needs. Depending on the area of hair loss, you can opt for a full-cap wig, a toupee, a frontal hair system, or a crown patch.

Women can choose a human hair topper for coverage only on top of the head or a medical wig for a completely bald head.

7. Do you want grey hair in your system?

Adding grey hair to your toupee makes the hair system look more age-appropriate. How much grey hair to add depends on the current density of grey hair in your natural hair. If you have grey hair in your bio hair, sides, sideburns, or beard, you should definitely consider adding it to your unit. We can help you determine the exact percentage of grey hair needed.

8. What kind of hairstyle do you prefer?

Decide on a hairstyle you prefer and have a picture of it handy for the consultation. We can help you choose the kind of toupee that works with that hairstyle.

9. Hair System Barber

Regular barbers rarely understand the nuances of wearing a hair system, so it's best to find a men’s hair system stylist who knows how to work with hairpieces. They will save you a ton of trouble. If you can’t find any hair system barbers near you, you can go to any of our salon locations in the US or Canada, and if that isn't an option for you, Superhairpieces offers salon-prepared, ready-to-wear hair systems that come with a base cut, haircut, hair styled, glued/taped, and prepared for you to wear right out of the box- no additional steps required!

Women can always take their hairpiece to their regular stylist to have it cut and blended with their bio hair. They can cut bangs, do a feathered cut, or get creative with their hairpiece.

FAQs:

Do I need to shave my head to wear a hair system? 

In most cases, you will need a shaved balding area for proper adhesion of your men’s hair system. However, if you have good hair density on the sides, we can work with clips, but we don’t generally recommend that. 

Women do not always need to shave the top of their hair, though some prefer to. Our crown hair toppers can easily conceal hair loss. If you are looking for a women’s wig, you don't necessarily need to be bald or have shaved hair, either. You can use a wig cap (if you have hair), and if you are bald, our glueless wigs cling snugly to your head for a secure fit.

What if I don’t find the right hair system?

We generally recommend stock hair systems that are readily available and can be shipped to you in a few days. However, if we don't have your exact hair color shade, or if you have specific requirements, we can order a custom hair system or a customized stock unit for you. If you do not wish to wait 3-4 months for the custom order to arrive, we can try to place a rush order (not guaranteed) to get the system to you sooner, in about 2 months.

Hair systems can fit various budgets but require ongoing investment; prices are in CAD.

Hair patches: $99 - $159

Initial costs of toupees: $249 - $499

Full cap wigs for men: $469 - $519

The cost of Custom hair systems depends on the level of customization.

Don't forget ongoing costs like adhesives ($20-50/month), maintenance products, and professional services if you don't attach it yourself. 

How many hairpieces will I need in a year? 

Hair systems are not a one-time purchase. Depending on your lifestyle and the hair system base you choose, you will require approximately 3-10 hair systems per year. After factoring in all the costs, they are still way cheaper than a hair transplant.

Can I swim, exercise, sleep, and shower with a hair system?

Yes, absolutely! With the correct adhesives, you can:

1. Swim in pools and oceans (though chlorine and salt water affect longevity)

3. Shower normally

4. Sleep without worry

Many wearers live completely active lifestyles. Just rinse after swimming and use leave-in conditioners to protect the hair. 

How often do I need to wash my hair system?

Wash your hair system once a week. Over-washing can strip away moisture and cause the hair to dry out or tangle prematurely. If you are active or sweat heavily, rinse your hair system with water daily, then follow up with a leave-in conditioner spray. Save the shampoo for your weekly routine.

Can I book a consultation and installation appointment on the same day? 

No, we can't install the hair system on the same day as your consultation. Depending on the unit we recommend, we may need to transfer it to the salon location. Our inventory is split between our warehouses in Florida and Canada. If the unit needs to be transferred, it may take 1-7 business days to transfer to the salon location for your installation appointment.
